    Cub Scout Cake
My son Ethan joined Cub Scouts a few months ago and he and my husband, Tommy, found out that they would be entering into an "extreme" cake competition with their pack! The biggest rule: NO FEMALE ASSISTANCE. I think I was more excited to see what came of it all than they were!

So they worked on their cake every night for 6 days straight...everything from design,to baking to decorating. They claim the pressure was really on because "we can't have Patti Cakes name go down!" :) I watched with great anticipation to see the finished product (and to see just how much they've both absorbed from seeing me do this for years) but stuck to the "No Female Assistance" rule.

Well, you would not believe what these two came up with...I was AMAZED! Ethan is a pro on the mixer and Tommy has some untapped real painting ability. He handpainted each of the patches on the shirt! They did an unbelievable job and worked so hard. I'm sure you will agree after seeing these pictures.

So now I will be making them join me more often to lend a hand during the busy times...they have both proved themselves and then some! I'm so proud of them both!

    Thank you!
A huge thank you to all of you who came out to see me yesterday at the bridal show in downtown Norfolk. An extra special thanks to my mom Lila and friend Juanita (my official cake cutters!) and dad Jack, husband Tommy, and son Ethan who did a wonderful job talking to people and handing out cake samples. I couldn't do it without you guys! It was so much fun and those margaritas were a perfect way to end the day.....

I'm already brainstorming on next years show! Everyone who knows us knows we squeeze as much as humanly possible into our booth. I just have so many ideas I want to share! Pearl, who can coordinate and plan EVERYTHING possible, did a spectatular job with the show this year (just as she always does!) and I can't wait till next year...thanks Pearl!

So yesterday was a great opportunity to see what everyone is thinking about in the cake department for this year. It sounds like cupcakes will be big! I even had a creative bride inquire about a brownie cake (what a brilliant idea!). The hot colors seem to be yellow, orange, fuschia and purple.

Here are some photos from the show. Can you believe I got my husband (and dad too) in a Patti Cakes apron?!? I have the most awesome family ever!

    Happy New Year!
Welcome to the new Patti Cakes blog! I'm so excited to start 2009 with my new website. A special thanks goes out to Kris Matter for making it so fabulous!

2009 is already shaping up to be a great year for Patti Cakes. The next few weeks will be spent preparing for the Uniquely Yours Bridal Expo on Sunday, January 18th at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. I invite everyone to come visit me and snag a few cake samples at the same time! The day of the show is one of my most favorite days of the year. It's so much work but I just love getting out there with lots of creative ideas in front of so many happy excited brides. Their enthusiasm is contagious and I can't help to think what a perfect job I have to play a role in their most important day ever!

Check out the show's website for all the details and I'll see you there! http://www.uniquelystyledbride.com/
I hope you continue to check back here for the latest happenings with Patti Cakes. As I leave you today I thought I'd throw in a picture of my last cake for 2008...an 18th birthday cake for a beautiful young lady named Lara.

Can't wait to see what 2009 brings!
